Imagine a sound that captures the raw energy of funk syncopation, the pure emotion of soul grooves, the freedom of jazz improvisation and the passionate elements of Latin rhythms. Drawing upon influences as varied as their individual origins, which covers everything from the frozen tundra of the Twin Cities to the sweltering heat of the Caribbean, Soulganic’s musical landscape is at once a crisp panorama, technically sound and seamlessly united, and at the same time it is a vivid palette of earthy hues, gritty and organic.
To hear the members of Soulganic individually is to hear them complement the whole. According to percussionist Lucas Torres, Soulganic is "a forum for endless creativity." McKeithan agrees. "We are not locked into any one thing and we have the freedom and the ability to explore so many different avenues that it never gets boring."
This freedom for expression is essential, especially when one thinks on the fact that each of the members is an accomplished musician in his own right. With Minnesotan turned Charlottean Ryan McKeithan on guitars, Washington, DC-rooted Cory McClure on drums, Bronx, NY born-and-raised Anthony Rodriguez on vocals and bass, and Son of Puerto Rico Lucas Torres on percussion, all have a chance to let their abilities individually shine.
Although the band is on hiatus from performing live, listeners can still get that trademark Soulganic energy via their debut album All Directions Forward, as Rodriguez states: "What I think weve been able to accomplish is a very nice translation of what our live shows were, but with the balance and control of playing our music in the studio. Its a nice, open, earthy sound, with just the right amount of wild energy and crisp production values."

Биография этой певицы запросто впечатлит даже признанного мастера российского «беспредела» Филиппа Киркорова. Немолодая женщина, страдая от маниакальной депрессии, записала 8 собственных студийных альбомов и в качестве приглашенной вокалистки учувствовала в записях Massive Attack, Moby, Asian Dub Foundation и прочих экспериментально музыцирующих безумцев. Родила троих детей от двух мужей, затем объявила себя лесбиянкой, а бога – женщиной, приняла сан священника католической церкви и публично порвала фотографию понтифика. Неоднократно обещала покинуть сцену, чтобы заботиться о детях и, наконец, нашла смысл жизни в растафарианстве. Теперь - «спасает Бога от религии» по средствам музыки. Очевидно, альбом Throw Down Your Arms есть не что иное как «духовная пластинка», призванная проповедовать растафарианство и кормить детей полоумной ирландки.

Тем не менее, игнорировать художественную ценность этого CD довольно сложно. Записанный на родине рэгги альбом содержит 12 каверов песен Ли Пэри, Питера Тоша, Боба Марли и других чуть менее известных некурящему россиянину основателей жанра.

Маргинальных растаманов должно смутить высокое качество записи: никакой обкуренной неряшливости аранжировок и невнятных подпевок из зарослей канабиса, каждая нота продуманна а бэк-вокал появляется только там, где ему положено быть. Эта черта делает пластинку более доступной неискушенному слушателю с одной стороны, и лишает ее индивидуальности с другой, хотя узнаваемая исполнительская манера Шенед с лихвой компенсирует выше упомянутый недостаток.

Чего нельзя отрицать, так это того, что Шенэд о’Коннор - баба голосистая, искренняя, неординарная и при этом талантливая, а значит находящаяся в постоянном творческом поиске. Что ж рзгги так рэгги, все, что не делает Шенед в музыке - по меньшей мере, интересно, однако надеется на очередное и скорейшее творческое перерождение певицы все же очень хочется.

Dubliner Nina Hynes, along with her band, makes a bittersweet sort of rock music. She employs a pretty, fragile vocal style, at times sounding remarkably like Bjork. On "William Tell," Creations opening track, she sounds so much like Bjork that the resemblance is a bit unnerving, or at least distracting. Still, the song presents a brutally sweet overture, mildly frightening in tone, but extremely pleasing and accomplished.
Nina Hynes is at her best when she leaves behind the Bjorkish mimicry, and its hard to fault this fine collection of dreamy, stylish tunes. Unless she wants to be pegged as the front-runner for the lead-singer spot in a Sugarcubes cover band, she will hopefully concentrate more on her own, powerful thematics.
